Didot Typography Poster

Didot is one of those typefaces that's been everywhere like luxury branding, and editorial spreads. Its roots go back to 18th century France, when Firmin Didot cut it in 1784 as a defining example of the Neoclassical serif: extreme contrast between thick and thin strokes, flat serifs, and an almost mechanical precision. For the poster, I wanted to honor that history while giving it some momentum. The graphics form a staircase which represent a literal path upward through Didot's legacy, while the three stacked iterations of the wordmark in white, red, and grey build on each other like steps. The black background keeps the contrast sharp.
